Hair problems

The past week I had quite an experience with my hair. I needed a hair cut and I tried to cut my own hair but I knew I was not able to cut my hair in a choppy v layers style. I started cutting my hair but it was not an easy task. So, the following morning I went to a Dominican Salon that numerous women (I know) recommended for me to go. The appointment was just weird. Wash & blow dry is priced separately from the cut. I showed her a picture of the hair cut I desired but didn't want her to ct too much of my hair. Did she listen to me? NO! Instead of 2 inches off, she cut about 6 inches. I told her not to touch my bangs since I wanted to grow it out and as she was getting near my bangs I said "don't cut my bangs" and you hear *snip. I was annoyed by this time. She didnt even apologize. Rude. When she finished cutting my hair she suggested she flat iron my hair but I told her it wasn't necessary but she insisted it'll show my layers more. So, I gave her the okay. As she was straighting my already straight hair. I could see the steam of the heat and it smells like she was burning my hair. I told her she must of put the setting to high for my hair but she was like no its fine. At the end result, I hated my cut! The layers looked messy and all over the place when it suppose to connect together. And my hair felt so dry and unhealthy. Before my haircut my hair felt and looked better, after the haircut it felt damaged. I was livid. I then realized all the women that recommended this place didn't have my type of hair. My hair is a mixture of Hispanic and Asian hair (thick and straight). And I'm guessing that Dominican Salon wasn't use to my type of hair. Do not get me wrong when I lived in NY there were many good Dominican salon that KNOW how to cut any type of hair. But this particular salon does not.

You are suppose to leave the hair salon, loving your new haircut. Feeling new and feeling beautiful after leaving the salon. But I felt the complete opposite. If you ladies are just like me, my hair means everything to me. It makes me feel good about myself and my hair has always been my number 1 asset. It's like a girls accessory. You can do so much with your hair, a nice do, a simple look...whatever you can think of.

To hide the horrific imperfections of my hair, I curled my hair. Right away, I searched and searched online for a better hair salon and I found one that had great reviews. I quickly made an appointment the following weekend. Imagine how I must have felt waiting an entire week to get my hair fixed. Not good!

This time around at the new hair salon I was a very happy client.I must say I was feeling nervous. I was afraid my hair would have to be cut short. I must admit the salon itself is gorgeous, and every single person I spoke to was helpful and sweet.  While I waited I had been offered something to drink. When my stylist came she was super friendly and that made me feel comfortable. I expressed my concern about my hair and right away, she knew what to do. When she was washing my hair, she massaged my scalp, neck and arms. How fantastic was that! That's such a bonus! She fixed my hair as best as she can. She did tell me it's not 100% how it should be since the other stylist messed up my hair with how she layered it plus she burned my hair! But overall I was very please with the results. Valerie (stylist) suggested products I can use to make my hair healthier again. She also, took her time and she made me feel just like a woman should feel after a great haircut. My hair finally felt healthy and silky smooth. I will definitely be going back. It was a top-notch service for a reasonable price!

Look how dry my hair looked in the before picture. Horrible!
My hair never felt or looked this bad.

  1. Oh man that is awful! Girl I am Dominican myself and I am not a fan of their hair cutting or styling PERIOD. They tend to use a lot of heat and they are very scissor happy! That is the reason I had to chop all of my hair off in August 2010.

I'm so sorry you had to experience that. Your hair tends to grow very fast so just deep condition yours at home and it should be back to normal soon. Definitely leave a review everywhere you possibly can.

  2. Im sorry about your experience at the first salon. I used to be a stylist at a salon, and people would come with the same problem you had, and we had (well had to try) to fix it if possible. If they were real stylist, they'd give you a nice consultation, to let you know what they were gonna do, how it would look, if it would look good on you, etc... instead of taking it into their hands because at the end of the day its your hair, and you have to walk around with it.

Im also glad you found a salon that is up to standards. Your hair looks nice! xo
